Viasat and Deutsche Telekom have announced a new long-term agreement to provide in-flight connectivity (IFC) solutions to airline partners across the European Aviation Network (EAN).
EAN combines S-band satellite coverage with Deutsche Telekom’s complementary ground component network. EAN is a one-of-a-kind example of European technological and regulatory leadership, allowing European travelers to benefit from an advanced IFC experience on most intra-European flights, including broadband services that support high bandwidth-demanding applications such as streaming. Deutsche Telekom operates over 300 EAN sites in 30 countries across Europe, providing significant infrastructure.
EAN utilizes small, light and low-drag terminals that can be installed on a plane in a short span of time. This saves money while also supporting sustainability initiatives and carbon reduction.
EAN was launched in 2019, powered by Deutsche Telekom and Inmarsat, a company recently acquired by Viasat. Since then, over 140 million passengers have been able to connect in-flight via the EAN connectivity solution. EAN is now available on over 290 aircraft operated by various airlines, including Iberia, British Airways, Vueling and AEGEAN.
