FullFibre and Zzoomm Merge to Form UK Fiber Giant

FullFibre and Zzoomm have merged, marking the latest significant consolidation move in the UK’s alternative network (altnet) space.

The newly formed entity will become one of the largest independent fiber networks in the country. Over 600,000 homes will be bolstered with Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) capabilities and the entity’s customer base is set to grow by more than 65,000.

A Strategic Move for Growth and Efficiency

This merger aims to create new opportunities for rapid customer growth across a broader service area, secure additional funding for further network expansion, and drive operational efficiencies. Through this combined financial strength and scale, the companies hope to position themselves better to seize opportunities for future acquisitions and further solidify their standing in the competitive fiber market.

Matthew Hare, Founder and CEO of Zzoomm, will assume the role of Executive Chairman of the newly merged company. FullFibre’s CEO, James Warner, will continue to oversee the company’s strategic direction as Group CEO.

While the financial details of the merger remain undisclosed, the move is seen as a key step in Zzoomm’s strategy to expand its footprint.

Building on Recent Successes for Future Growth

Hare stated, “We have consistently stated our strategy is to grow organically and by M&A [mergers and acquisitions] in this fragmented market. [Being] an enlarged business with the operational and financial infrastructure, benefitting from the economies of scale, as well as a management team with an exceptional track record, we will have an excellent platform to combine with other altnets in the near future as well as driving organic growth faster.”

Warner added, “For FullFibre, this is our second merger and another milestone in our mission to create a 21st-century digital backbone for the nation. Following our recent successful integration with Digital Infrastructure and BeFibre, this next merger further accelerates our ambitions to lead the market and provide unmatched connectivity to homes, businesses, and wholesale partners alike.”

In 2023, the company completed a high-profile merger with Digital Infrastructure, which included the latter’s ISP division, BeFibre. The move expanded FullFibre’s reach, bringing its network coverage to over 250,000 homes.

The merger between FullFibre and Zzoomm is expected to further reshape the competitive landscape of the UK’s broadband market, providing the foundation for more aggressive expansion plans soon.
