The expert in digital infrastructure, EXA Infrastructure, has announced major investments in its network that connects Sicily to mainland Italy. These investments include improvements to the Janna cable system and the addition of a submarine route that runs from Palermo to Genoa. With four different routes available from Sicily, EXA can now offer businesses more options and resilience.
Combining Terrestrial and Underwater Links
Modern Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology has been added to the Janna cable system, which combines terrestrial and underwater links. This upgrade enables EXA to provide 400G capacity on the path, connecting Sicily and the Italian peninsula. The addition of modern Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing technology to the Janna cable system offers increased bandwidth capacity and improved efficiency by allowing multiple signals to be transmitted simultaneously over a single optical fiber. This enhances the system’s capability to handle growing data traffic demands, resulting in faster data transmission speeds, reduced latency, and overall improved performance for users.
Additionally, EXA will open a brand-new submarine route that runs between Genoa and Palermo, giving access to the economic center of Northern Italy. It is anticipated that the Palermo-Genoa route will be operational by early Q2 2024. EXA can offer four different routes to the Italian mainland and continental Europe with two additional terrestrial links from Sicily, giving customers unmatched network flexibility and diversification.
Foundational Knowledge for Economic and Digital Growth
Being the largest owned network in Europe and North America, EXA offers superior engineering knowledge and an essential modern infrastructure that forms the foundation of both economic and digital growth. Sicily serves as a major entry point for international travel, meaning that the variety of these routes will boost trade worldwide.
Steve Roberts, SVP of Strategic Investments and Product Management, EXA Infrastructure, said, “We recognize the importance of Sicily as one of the major gateways of international traffic into Europe and by upgrading and diversifying our paths off the island, we’re well prepared for current and future bandwidth demand. We’re committed to investing to grow our network and expand the availability and diversification of critical modern infrastructure for business.”
