Vodafone Spain has successfully expanded its Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network to cover all 51 provincial capitals nationwide.
With 16,782 dedicated sites now in operation, the network is designed to connect more than 100,000 devices per base station.

NB-IoT Network Growth Fuels Industry Innovation
The expanded network now powers Vodafone Spain’s 7.5 million active IoT connections, reflecting a 66% growth from the five million connections reported in 2022. Vodafone’s NB-IoT infrastructure is widely utilized across various industries, including security and connected alarms, banking, logistics, renewable energy, agriculture, waste and water management, vehicle fleets, intelligent cities, and healthcare services.
One of the latest large-scale projects under Vodafone Spain’s IoT umbrella includes a deal with Aqualia, a leading water management company. Over the next five years, Vodafone will supply more than one million NB-IoT connections to Aqualia, enabling more innovative water management systems. Additionally, Vodafone’s technology is being used to protect the Laguna Primera de Palos wetland in the Huelva province through the deployment of a connected fire-detection system, which will monitor and safeguard the ecologically sensitive area.
This expansion places Vodafone Spain at the forefront of IoT innovation, solidifying its role in advancing connectivity solutions that support critical infrastructure and environmental protection, while driving the growth of smart cities and sustainable business operations across the country.
