Expanding Global Digital Access

The 2Africa subsea cable system, launched in March, 2020, is the largest of its kind, connecting 33 countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia, and transforming global communications. Focusing on enhancing internet access, reducing latency, and boosting data flow will benefit regions with limited connectivity. Backed by significant telecom and tech companies, including Vodafone, Orange, Meta, center3, and China Mobile, and constructed by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), 2Africa is set to drive technological innovation, economic growth, and social progress.

Vodafone is one of the largest investors in subsea cable infrastructure, boasting a capacity of 80 systems covering 1 million kilometers and connecting 100 countries. These vast undersea networks form the foundation of global internet connectivity, carrying 99.5% of international data traffic.

Last year, Vodafone further expanded its network by linking Crete to the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) cable system, which connects Mumbai to Europe and extends to Singapore via the India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) system. With the arrival of 2Africa, Vodafone continues to solidify its position as a key player in the global digital ecosystem, ensuring faster, more resilient internet infrastructure for businesses, governments, and consumers worldwide.

By landing the 2Africa cable in Crete, Vodafone reinforces Greece’s role as a strategic gateway for global connectivity, paving the way for a more interconnected future.
