Vodafone Germany and 1&1 have officially launched a national roaming partnership, a significant development for the German telecommunications market.
The agreement paves the way for 1&1 customers to access Vodafone’s mobile network starting August 29th. This partnership follows a preliminary agreement reached last year, with both companies committed to commencing with the collaboration in the summer of 2024.

One-on-One for 1&1 Customers
Previously, 1&1 customers relying on the company’s 5G network were switched to Telefónica’s network in areas where 1&1 lacked coverage. With this new partnership, all national roaming services for 1&1 will be provided through Vodafone’s robust network. According to 1&1, these network switchovers will occur seamlessly without any noticeable impact on the user experience.
The agreement also benefits existing 1&1 customers, who will soon be able to utilize the 1&1 5G network in conjunction with Vodafone’s national roaming services. The transition of mobile tariffs to include Vodafone’s network will be rolled out gradually, with completion expected by autumn 2025.
Marcel de Groot, CEO of Vodafone Germany, emphasized the importance of the partnership, “We are about to undertake Germany’s largest mobile communications migration. With this collaboration, we can optimize our network usage and further strengthen our services for customers, ensuring sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
Ralph Dommermuth, CEO of 1&1 AG, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the benefits for 1&1 customers, “We believe our customers will gain significantly from this partnership. Vodafone has substantially invested in network quality, particularly nationwide 5G coverage. Simultaneously, our primary focus is rapidly expanding the 1&1 mobile network and extending our innovative OpenRAN technology to more areas.”
This partnership marks a significant step forward for both companies as they collaborate to enhance network coverage and service quality across Germany.
