Telefónica has extended its network infrastructure sharing agreement with Digi Communications’ Spanish subsidiary for an additional 16 years beyond their current contract, which ends in January 2025.

Telefónica emphasized that the agreement strengthens a successful partnership supporting a “long-term revenue stream.” They highlighted the agreement as evidence of the exceptional quality of their national network infrastructure and the confidence it inspires in delivering high-quality services.

Additionally, Telefónica stated that the agreement allows Digi to optimize the efficient and cost-effective utilization of its recently acquired spectrum assets. Last December, Digi agreed to acquire blocks of frequencies in the 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, and 3,500 MHz bands from MásMóvil for EUR 120 million, as part of MásMóvil’s efforts to secure approval for its merger with Orange.

In a separate statement related to the renewed partnership, Digi outlined that the extended agreement would enable them to efficiently transition their mobile telephony operations in Spain from an MVNO to an MNO, facilitating the deployment of their own mobile network.

Digi Spain holds the largest market share among MVNOs in Spain in terms of customer numbers. As of December 2023, it reported 4.7 million revenue-generating contractual relationships in mobile services and 1.4 million broadband subscribers. Additionally, the company launched 5G services in February 2024.
