Swisscom has confirmed that its EUR 8 billion acquisition of Vodafone Italy is progressing smoothly, as the company takes steps to secure the necessary regulatory approvals five months after finalizing the deal.

On August 13th, Swisscom announced that it had formally notified Italy’s competition authority of the planned acquisition the previous day, August 12th. The notification marks a key milestone in Swisscom’s broader efforts to obtain the required approvals to finalize its purchase of Vodafone Italy.

“Overall, completion of the Vodafone Italia transaction is on track. Swisscom secured financing for the purchase price in May and received unconditional approval from the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in Italy, which oversees the country’s Golden Power regulations,” Swisscom stated.

The Swiss operator also noted that the Swiss Competition Commission has approved the takeover. “The transaction is still subject to other regulatory approvals. Swisscom confirms that the closing is expected in Q1 2025,” the company added.

Aldo Bisio, Vodafone Italy’s current CEO, is expected to step down in November but will remain on the board to assist with the transition as Swisscom takes control.
