Expanding Mediterranean Connectivity

BlueMed is Sparkle’s new cable connecting Italy with France, Greece, and several countries bordering the Mediterranean. It is part of the Blue-Raman submarine cable system built in partnership with Google and other operators, and stretches through the Middle East up to Mumbai, India. With four fiber pairs and an initial design capacity of more than 25 Terabits per second (Tbps) per pair, BlueMed offers high-speed and high-performance connectivity along its route, supporting the growing needs and digital evolution of the countries it connects.

Under the agreement, signed during Capacity Middle East 2025 in Dubai, Sparkle will create a branch of BlueMed and connect it to Cyta’s landing station in Yeroskipos, providing the Cypriot operator with connectivity to the BlueMed submarine cable system between Cyprus, Greece, and other Mediterranean countries.

Once the cable landing is completed, BlueMed will enhance Cyta’s ability to meet the growing demand for advanced internet services and digital content in Cyprus and will provide high-speed connections and a superior data experience to its enterprise, institutional, and individual customers via diverse routes.

Cyprus: The Eastern Mediterranean Hub

“This partnership with Sparkle reinforces our long-standing relationship and amplifies our strategic role in the region as a connectivity hub in the East Med,” explained George Metzakis, Chief Commercial Officer of Cyta. “The connection of Cyta to the BlueMed will further enhance the Cyprus digital ecosystem.”

The BlueMed connection to Yeroskipos adds to the existing connection between Pentaskhinos and Chania (realized via the MedNautilus submarine cable system), bringing diversification to the Cyprus-Greece route.
