Deutsche Telekom’s Greek subsidiary Hellenic Telecommunications Organization S.A. (OTE) has confirmed to be in discussion with Quantum Projects Group (QPG) over the sale of Telekom Romania Mobile.
OTE Group stated that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with QPG for the latter’s potential acquisition of OTE’s Romanian mobile business. According to OTE, the unit’s potential buyer was controlled by local media mogul Adrian Tomsa.
The operator said it had “consistently strived to improve” Telekom Romania’s performance while also trying to explore strategic options to secure long-term growth. Following the signing of the MoU, both parties are now awaiting approval from Romanian authorities to proceed with the sale.
In 2021, OTE agreed to sell its majority stake in Telekom Romania to Orange.
Telekom Romania is currently the smallest of Romania’s four mobile operators, with approximately 3.9 million connections. This places it behind Orange, Vodafone and Digi Communications.
