Advancing Next-Generation Connectivity

As part of its ‘Lead the Future’ strategy, Orange Belgium is set to revolutionize its network infrastructure by 2040. The plan includes expanding its fixed network in Wallonia and six municipalities in Brussels, with two-thirds of the coverage utilizing Fiber-to-the-Premises (FTTP) and the remaining one-third relying on Hybrid Fiber Coaxial (HFC) technologies. This approach aims to deliver lightning-fast internet speeds of 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps.

Currently delivering 1 Gbps through DOCSIS 3.1 technology, Orange Belgium is now upgrading its HFC network to Distributed Access Architecture. This significant transformation will span at least 34% of the network footprint in Wallonia and Brussels.

Philippe Toussaint, Chief Technology Officer at Orange Belgium, highlighted, “This upgrade not only enables us to pave the way for 10 Gbps broadband capacities but also ensures greater energy efficiency and resource optimization, in line with our commitment to sustainability. With these investments, we are laying the foundation for a more agile, reliable, and high-performing network that will meet the demands of tomorrow.”

Cutting-Edge Support from Partners

CommScope is playing a pivotal role by providing its Video Unified Edge (VUE) video core and Video Topology Manager (VTM) platforms, simplifying the transition to Distributed Access Architecture and offering a scalable video core and centralized network management. The VUE and VTM platforms promise minimal service disruptions while enabling seamless video delivery and efficient network topology management.

“Together, VUE and VTM will provide tremendous advantages for Orange Belgium as they deploy new Distributed Access Architecture technology in their current network,” said Guy Sucharczuk, SVP and President of Access Network Solutions at CommScope.

By embracing advanced technology and forging strong partnerships, Orange Belgium is setting a new standard for fixed internet access in Belgium.
