Twenty-five new sites for mobile network operator (MNO), EE, are now operational on Freshwave’s infrastructure, significantly boosting capacity and improving the 4G and 5G experience for EE users in one of the world’s leading financial hubs.
Several more sites are under construction, and are set to enhance the mobile connectivity of the UK’s top network in more areas of the Square Mile when they come online.
Freshwave has created a new mobile framework for this initiative. EE became the first UK mobile operator to launch on the Freshwave London network back in December 2022. The initial pilot has proven to be successful, with EE users collectively downloading up to 7.5 TB of data weekly across all active sites.

Shared Infrastructure for Vast Connectivity
Freshwave has introduced a unique solution that allows all four mobile network operators (MNOs) to utilize 4G and 5G networks from the outset without requiring any infrastructure modifications—making it a pioneering development in the UK. This innovative system includes specially designed wideband antennas, cabinets, columns, and extensive dark-fiber connections to each cabinet.
Freshwave manages the network by deploying shared infrastructure, which minimizes equipment duplication and offers a more cost-effective solution. This strategy also reduces street clutter and disruption during construction projects. By promoting shared infrastructure, Freshwave lowers the environmental impact while ensuring the reliable mobile connectivity users expect while on the go.
A total of 25 new live sites have been established throughout the Square Mile, with prominent locations including St. Paul’s Cathedral, Cannon Street, and the Bank of England on Threadneedle Street. These outdoor small cells, installed at street level, are designed to increase capacity within mobile networks.
