EE has announced plans to significantly improve mobile connectivity across the UK by extending its 5G standalone (5G SA) network to 16 additional locations before the year’s end.
With the addition of 16 new locations—encompassing popular tourist spots, commuter towns, and industrial centers—EE’s advanced mobile network will now reach over 21 million people, nearly one-third of the UK population.

The new locations set to benefit from this upgrade include Ashton-under-Lyne, Barrow-in-Furness, Barry, Birkenhead, Bury, Coventry, Dudley, Dundee, Newport, Nottingham, St Helens, Stockport, Swansea, Weston-super-Mare, Wigan, and Wolverhampton.
EE launched its 5G standalone network in early September, initially covering 15 cities, including all four UK capitals and key metropolitan areas such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow, and Sheffield.
The company has pledged to provide at least 95% outdoor coverage in every town or city where it rolls out the 5G standalone service, ensuring customers experience a reliable and consistent connection across the network.

5G standalone technology is improving the mobile internet experience, providing users with enhanced video calls, streaming, and online gaming, both at home and on the go. Customers will also be able to enjoy higher quality voice calls in congested areas. This improvement is due to devices connecting directly to a dedicated 5G network, allowing for greater capacity during busy times and major events.
EE’s 5G standalone products aim to optimize the performance of AI applications. These innovations ensure that advanced AI tools and services, including Galaxy AI and Gemini AI, can connect seamlessly to the cloud, delivering the fastest and most efficient experiences for customers.
