According to a report from noted tech news source The Information, Apple is investing millions of dollars per day into artificial intelligence (AI). The company has various teams developing multiple AI models. The conversational AI unit, called “Foundational Models,” consists of around 16 members, including former Google engineers. It is led by John Giannandrea, Apple’s head of AI, who joined in 2018 to improve Siri.
Additional teams are working on visual intelligence and multimodal AI, capable of recognizing and generating images, videos and text. These models have various applications, including the development of a chatbot for customer interactions and tasks automation with Siri. Apple’s most advanced language model, Ajax GPT, has been trained on over 200 billion parameters and is more powerful than OpenAI’s GPT-3.5. However, this model remains primarily for internal use. Apple has not responded to requests for comment on the report.
