Hungarian telecommunications company, 4iG, has announced plans to launch an ambitious satellite program—HUSAT—to position the company as a leader in space technology in Central and Eastern Europe.
The program, which 4iG has called the “largest privately funded satellite initiative” in Hungary and the region, will include Earth observation (EO) satellites and a telecommunications satellite.

Dual Satellite Constellation
As part of the HUSAT program, 4iG will deploy a telecommunications satellite named HUGEO in geostationary orbit (GEO). In addition, the company will launch an eight-satellite Earth observation constellation named HULEO, which will consist of six electro-optical (EO) satellites and two synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites. The HULEO constellation is designed to provide advanced EO data, data processing, and telecommunications services.
4iG’s subsidiary, 4iG Space and Defense Technologies, will construct the EO satellites. The company is setting up a dedicated manufacturing facility in Martonvásár, Hungary, which is expected to be completed by 2026. The facility will focus on the production of these satellites. The GEO satellite, HUGEO, will be built with an international partner.
The company has set a target for the GEO satellite and the first batch of electro-optical satellites to begin operations by the end of 2028.

Strengthening Space Capabilities
This satellite program forms part of 4iG’s broader strategy to expand its aerospace and technology capabilities. In February 2024, the company reorganized its aerospace and tech portfolio, acquiring Spacecom into its 4iG Space and Defense Technologies subsidiary. This move aims to bolster 4iG’s space tech development, including satellite and uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) technologies, to establish the company as a regional leader in the space industry.
Through the HUSAT program, 4iG hopes to significantly enhance its role in Europe’s growing satellite and telecommunications sectors.
