The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) initiated a preliminary inquiry into the possible effects of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s USD 14 billion purchase of Juniper Networks.
The regulator stated it would examine whether the merger could reduce competition in the UK market for products and services.
It aims to reach a decision by the 14th of August on whether to refer the transaction for further scrutiny and is seeking input from stakeholders until the 3rd of July.

Following the announcement of the deal in early 2024, the CEOs of both firms praised the merger’s advantages at MWC Barcelona 2024, emphasizing its potential benefits for customers in the telecommunications industry and other sectors.
During the session, HPE President and CEO, Antonio Neri, and Juniper Networks CEO, Rami Rahim, highlighted the joint company’s potential to address heightened power and performance demands in the AI-driven infrastructure era.
In the company’s earnings call on June 4th, Neri mentioned that the acquisition is currently undergoing regulatory scrutiny and is anticipated to be finalized around the end of 2024 or early 2025, aligning with the initially projected timeline.
Apart from approval from UK regulators, the transaction will also need clearance from regulatory bodies in multiple other markets, including the US, where both companies are based.
