With the Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway (GSM-R) set for retirement by 2030, FRMCS has been identified as a key technology for the sector’s future.
The 34-month project, which commenced on December 1, 2024, is co-funded by Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (EU-Rail) and the European Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). It will validate market-ready signaling specifications on high-traffic railway corridors, ensuring their integration into future updates of the Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs).
