Proximus, Wyre, Telenet, and Fiberklaar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a potential partnership for expanding fiber networks in Flanders, Belgium.
The collaboration aims to enhance high-speed gigabit network availability for more consumers, accelerate fiber deployment, and minimize the need for extensive civil works.

Wyre and Fiberklaar aim to extend fiber-optic coverage to about 2.7 million homes in areas with intermediate to low population density. This plan is contingent upon finalizing agreements, securing regulatory and antitrust approvals, and avoiding any adverse regulatory issues.
In areas with medium density, Wyre and Fiberklaar will jointly develop fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) networks for approximately 2 million homes, with Wyre handling 60% of the deployment and Fiberklaar, 40%. Proximus and Telenet will gain reciprocal wholesale access to these networks, enhancing efficiency and expanding fiber access while minimizing construction work.

For the least populated regions, Proximus will utilize Wyre’s Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) network to provide gigabit speeds to around 0.7 million homes throughout Flanders. In urban centers and densely populated areas, operators will continue to expand their individual networks independently.
The signing of the MoU follows productive discussions over the past few months, initiated after the BIPT and BCA announced in October 2023 their openness to exploring potential collaborations between operators. Reflecting these announcements, the parties have outlined the key terms for a potential partnership. They are now working closely with the BIPT and BCA and will fully cooperate with the authorities throughout their review processes.
